As Women’s History Month in March comes to a close, Rampage takes a moment to honor the incredible contributions of some of the women who teach at RHS.
Throughout the high school, these educators are shaping young minds and futures every day. Rampage spoke with several inspiring staff members to about their journeys, what motivates them and what they hope to instill in their students.
Michele Adriano, Dance Teacher
Dance teacher Michele Adriano finds joy in watching students grow in both confidence and creativity. She strives to create a classroom environment that feels safe and supports creativity.
“Witnessing students grow both artistically and personally is the most rewarding part of teaching dance at RHS,” Adriano said. “Seeing a nervous student perform with confidence or a group create something meaningful makes the work I do fulfilling.”
Estela Flood, Spanish Teacher
Spanish teacher Estela Flood’s mission is to connect her students with the Spanish-speaking world. Her passion helps bridge cultural and language gaps while bringing a global perspective to RHS students.
“I was motivated to become a Spanish teacher to share my love for the language and culture, connect students globally and support bilingual families,” Flood said.
Sheri Data, Physical Education Teacher
Physical education teacher Sheri Data emphasizes the importance of acknowledging women’s past accomplishments.
“It’s important to recognize women throughout history for their accomplishments and the barriers they broke to allow women to pursue their passions today,” Data said.
Erin O’Neill, Student Counselor
Student counselor Erin O’Neill is focused on developing future female leaders.
“My goal is to help young women build confidence, develop leadership skills and believe they are capable and ready to lead in whatever path they choose,” O’Neill said.
Meghan Altis, Math Teacher
For math teacher Meghan Altis, the relationships she builds with her students are the most meaningful part of her work.
“The best part of being a teacher is the daily interaction with students and getting to know them both academically and personally,” Altis said.
Allison Abney, Photography Teacher
Photography teacher Allison Abney aims to empower students in their life choices.
“My main goal is for young women to understand that their life’s pursuit isn’t dedicated by biological sex, but by their own sense of fulfilment,” Abney said.
These stories are just a small glimpse of the impact these women have on the RHS community. As Women’s History month concludes, it serves as a reminder not only to appreciate the women in our lives but also to reflect on the countless contributions women have made throughout history.
