The Randolph High School Choirs performed their annual spring concert in the high school auditorium on May 20, concluding with a special tribute to graduating seniors and their contributions to the program.
Treble Choir opened the concert with “Begin Again” by Daniel Brinsmead, followed by “Here Comes the Sun” by George Harrison, arranged by Matt and Adam Podd.
“Throughout the year, Treble Choir has worked very hard on distinguishing our harmonies and improving our blend,” sophomore choir member Amelia Williams said. “I feel as though all our hard work really came together at this concert, giving us one of our best performances this year.”
Concert Choir followed with “Dumela” by Cedrick Howoseb, featuring sophomore soloist Aidan Danner, “From the Underground” by Dan Wiebe and “Non Nobis Domine” by Roshphanye Powell. The selections provided an upbeat contrast to the previous ballads.
Chamber Choir then performed “TaReKiTa” by Reena Esmail, “Time” by Jennifer Lucy Cook and “The New World” by Jason Robert Brown.
“One of my favorite parts of the concert is always getting to see the amazing songs that Chamber Choir is able to perform so well,” student performer Andrew Tramposch said.
Throughout the evening, Ensembles performed a variety of pieces, including the complete 64-page “Requiem” by John Rutter accompanied by a symphonic orchestra. Originally composed as a religious work, the piece featured seven movements, performed over the course of approximately 30 minutes, showcasing the choir members’ endurance and vocal range.
“It was a very interesting composition,” sophomore orchestra performer Dean Lee said. “There were many intricate elements and melodies, and I really enjoyed playing it.”
The concert concluded with a moving tribute to and by seniors, in recognition of their contributions to the program. As the choir performed “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” by Dolly Parton, seniors Ben Quinn, Ashly Alphonse, Richard Torrente, Aishvi Mehta, Daniel Asaro, Hannah Hutchinson, Jonah Davidson, Hannah Augustine, Felipe Arruda, Emma Carothers and Jayna Josaphat presented flowers to their parents in the audience.
