Since the start of this semester, RHS students have noticed a major change in the schools’ morning announcements. The school’s Video Club, which traditionally produced the Ram Report, a live morning show on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with PA announcements on Tuesdays and Thursdays, has introduced an entirely new lineup.
Taking the place of the PA announcements, the club launched two new shows: Rams News Network on Tuesdays and a sports show called RamZone on Thursdays.
Now, students can watch programming every weekday morning during homeroom when the shows are live streamed through the Ram Studios channel on YouTube.
“With the Ram Report and all the other live morning shows that we do, our main goal is to make announcements for the student and teacher population of RHS,” club director Josh Dobis said.
Ram News Network, hosted by Jeffrey Allen, follows a traditional news format and highlights stories from the previous week, ranging from school updates to national and global headlines.
“Ram News Network covers campus news, local stories, national headlines, international events, and entertainment,” advisor Tara Sterling explained.
RamZone, co-hosted by Jacob Lifshey and Jake Rubin, is a weekly show that covers recent sports news. A typical show includes top plays, upcoming games and a hot take.
“It’s very entertaining if you are into sports or want to get into sports,” Lifshey said.
The traditional morning show, Ram Report, has also undergone changes behind the desk. Former hosts Libby Cooper and Angel Perol have been replaced by seniors Jillian Liebhauser and Ava Sousa, with Gavin O’Donnell and others filling in on occasion. The program also offered new on-air talent, including Ahmed Bassam and Drew Milberg as weather presenters.
“With the recent change, the previous talent got to try a different job within the club and a new group of students got a chance to be the face of the Ram Report,” Dobis explained.
The revamped schedule is just the beginning of broader changes to the RHS media program, which is introducing a new course, Sports Broadcast Production, which will serve as a companion and foundation for RamZone. The course, taught by media teacher Tara Sterling, will give students hands-on experience with both on-camera work and behind-the-scenes production.
“It’s helping us build the foundation now so the show can continue and grow under the new course,” Sterling explained. “Students will be able to contribute to the show both in the classroom and during live productions, gaining real broadcast experience along the way.”
“I’ve always been interested in sports, journalism and broadcasting,” sophomore Jordan Jacobs said. “I was able to complete the two-year journalism program at Randolph, but I wasn’t able to explore broadcasting until next year.”
Students can support the growing media program by tuning in to Ram Studios on YouTube every school morning at 7:30 a.m. to catch the latest announcements, news and sports coverage.
