The Randolph Boys and Girls Winter Track team completed a rigorous preseason program to prepare for its first meet of the 2025-2026 season, taking place today, Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Ocean Breeze.
Preseason Training
Sprinters
During the preseason, the sprinters worked hard to get ready for the upcoming season. On the first day, the girl sprinters took their annual fitness test to run a mile in under eight minutes.
For the boys, senior Christian Velasco said, “Some friends and I held a couple of captains’ practices before the season, so we could come into the season already in shape.”
Many sprinters hit the weight room every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, they completed assorted workouts, including hills, 200/400 repeats and broken 400s.
Distance
The distance squad completed lengthy drills, including ladders that increased in length each week, moving from 400m to 800m to 1200m and beyond.
“After a week-long break from a great cross-country season, we eased back into base milage and have been stacking days,” senior distance runner Lilah Willis said. “We recently threw in some shorter and controlled tempo efforts to rebuild our aerobic base, but this first meet is a rust buster.”
Throwers
The girl throwers started off with fitness to see how fast they could run an 800. They then joined the boys to practice correct throwing techniques. The throwers also hit the weight room every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
The 2025-2026 Team
This year’s team benefits from a seasoned coaching staff. Sprint captains Katherine Moran and Anthony Zarro lead alongside head coach Luke Suttile. Distance coaches Jenna Robeson, Kevin Higgins and Nick Albonito return as well, joined by throwing coach Eric Naclerio.
“This season we have a great group of talent,” senior jumper and sprinter Seannah Parsons said. “I am excited to see what we can accomplish this season.”
Shot put standouts such as Justin Swayze are expected to lead the team in throws this season.
“I am excited for the season to start so the team can begin competing,” senior sprinter Christian Velasco said.
