While the Rams ended with a 3-15-1 record, the scoreboard did not define the season for the team. The players showed determination, growth and heart, from their opening match to their final game—a 7-0 loss to Summit in the NJSIAA State Tournament, on Monday, Nov. 3.
Several athletes delivered standout performances this year. Freshman Mia Briganti played a huge part with 151 saves in goal. Offensively, seniors Daniella Gizienski, Avery Gamsby and Jillian Liebhauser led the team in goals, with four each. Liebhauser also led with four assists.
Despite the mounting losses as the season wore on, the Rams’ strong team mindset never faltered. “We never gave up, no matter what the score was,” freshman defender Lily Miller said. “The defensive chemistry was really strong, and we had a really good season together.”
When it came time to face Mendham, the girls really stepped up their game. With it tied at 0-0 in the final second, the Rams pushed through until the very end to score the game-winnner—an example of the grit and determination that were hallmarks of Randolph’s season.
All players helped the team in their own ways, whether by guiding the younger players or helping score goals.
This year’s seniors—Sasha Jampol, Bowie Manning, Catalina Martinez, Daniella Gizienski, Avery Gamsby, Hailey Petroski, Jillian Liebhauser, Olivia Manganiello and Rayna Emdur—served as strong leaders and role models for the underclassmen.
The Rams also saw unexpected talent from their four freshmen. Miller played a key role in defense alongside Gianna McKernan, who stepped up to play defense although she is a forward. Briganti stepped up to play goalie and shocked everyone, while offensively, Devyn Meyers helped the forward line, scoring two goals.
Off the field, team dinners became a big part of the Rams’ traditions and helped the girls form new friendships. Although the results may not have shown it, these friendships helped build trust on the field, which strengthened the team in meaningful ways.
This year may not have been the best record-wise, but after sticking together through good times and bad, the Rams finished the year having grown not just as athletes—but as a family.
