The Randolph Girls Swim team has big hopes for 2025-2026 coming off of last year’s historic season. The 2024-2025 squad finished with a 7-2 record, including a 4-1 showing in the NJAC-American Conference, and won the State Sectional Championship against Northern Highlands. The Rams also placed second at counties—their best showing since 1997.
This year, the team will look in part to its strong senior class to keep the legacy alive. This includes standout swimmer Sydney Wright, the girls’ high point scorer for three consecutive years, swimming the 100 and 50 freestyle and both freestyle relays.
“This season we hope to use our momentum and take the team far,” Wright said. “It’s motivating knowing we still have things to improve on to make the team better.”
Other returning seniors include Peyton Enama, who contributes to the 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke and relay events, and Alivia Wright, who swims the 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly and both freestyle relays.
These seniors are key scorers who said they’re ready to excel in their last year on the high school team. “Now that we are the oldest on the team and have more responsibility, I think it is important that we go into it with a positive attitude in order to have a good season,” Enama said.
For the junior class, girls to watch include Alba Saguillo Leppanen, a versatile swimmer whose top events include the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley. In addition, Ateesa Mulondo is key in the 500 freestyle and all three relays.
The Rams’ standout sophomore class is a major asset. Key swimmers include Julianna Young (100 breaststroke, 200 individual medley), Taylor Holzman (500 freestyle), Ashely McDonnell (100 and 50 freestyle), Angelica Sandoval (100 butterfly), Reese Nelson (50 freestyle) and Amelia Williams (100 backstroke).
Two promising freshmen to watch are Sofia Saguillo Leppanen and Ella Loeffler.
“I think the team has what it takes to get back to the state sectional champ and place high for Randolph,” S. Wright said.
Added Enama, “A goal that we have is to defend our state sectional title and work hard to grow as a team, in and out of the pool.”
The Rams open their season against Morristown at CCM on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 2:30 p.m.
