Randolph Football Beats West Morris, 14-13, on Friday, Oct. 13

Randolph Football won at West Morris Central, 14-13, on Friday, Oct. 13. “The motivation for this game was to beat a team that beat our seniors last year and make them proud,” junior Nick Hart said.

The Rams and the Wolfpack both opened up their first possessions unsuccessfully.

Randolph came out swinging with big completions from senior Wide Receivers James Klevien, Joel Sabillon and Josh Anderson and sophomore Joey Sommer, followed by quality runs from sophomore Quarterback Jackson Magley and senior Running Back Jesse Wilfong.

Halfway through the second quarter, Magley hit Anderson for a 26-yard touchdown pass, giving the Rams a 7-0 lead with 7 minutes remaining in the half.

The Wolfpack was able to put together a successful drive resulting in a touchdown, as they tied the game at 7-7 going into halftime.

“Our plan at halftime was to come in to the second half with a 0-0 score mentality and secure the game, which we knew we were capable of, and so we did,” sophomore John Andrade said.

The Randolph defensive line and linebacker core came up big with tackles for losses from Wilfong, junior Dean Mangiocavallo and sophomores Joey Bosotina and Andrade.

Randolph gained momentum when junior Jack Manolis forced a fumble and Mangiocavallo recovered the ball going into the final quarter of play.

Anderson was able to push through West Morris defenders to gain a 14-7 lead early in the fourth quarter.

The Wolfpack was able to respond quickly, scoring a touchdown of their own. Kleiven came in big, blocking the point after attempt to kick, preserving the Rams lead, 14-13.

“We see what we are capable of doing when we execute. We need to have a great week of practice and stay focused so we can play to the best of our ability,” Sommer said.

The Rams elevate to 5-3 and will look to use this momentum for their homecoming game against Morris Knolls on Friday, Oct. 20, at Bauer Field.
