Randolph Track features a variety of jumping events, including long jump, triple jump, high jump and pole vault. This spring, Randolph’s jumpers have continued to impress with standout performances across the board.
Long Jump
Long jumpers sprint down the runway before launching themselves into a sand pit, aiming to jump as far as possible. If an athlete crosses the takeoff line, then the jump is disqualified.
For the boys’ team, senior Michael Szoke leads Randolph with a jump of 19-0 at the NJAC East meet on Wednesday May 5. Junior EJ Febles follows closely behind with a jump of 18-9 at the Randolph Relays on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
On the girls’ side, sophomore Madeline Yuen recorded a top jump of 14-8.5 at the Morris County–Richard Fahey Freshman-Sophomore (Frosh-Soph) Championships on Friday, May 8. Senior Ava Shadwell also posted a strong performance with a jump of 13-10.25 at NJAC East.
Triple Jump
Triple jump also takes place in the sand pit, but athletes complete a hop, step and jump sequence before landing.
Szoke once again leads the boys’ team with a jump of 40-7.50 at NJAC East. Senior Sam Cardona follows with a mark of 37-8.5, also achieved at NJAC East.
For the girls, senior Seannah Parsons leads the way with a personal record jump of 41-7.25, who jumped her pr with Randolph on at the 130th Penn Relay Carnival on Sunday, April 25. Sophomore Ava Gumann follows with a personal record (pr) of 31-6, which she achieved at the Morris County–Richard Fahey Frosh-Soph Championships.
“Many people overlook triple jump, but I find it one of the most interesting and fun events to compete in,” Parsons said. “I am extremely proud of my progress in the event so far, considering I started my junior year; however, I still have a lot of room to improve.”
High Jump
Unlike the other jumping events, high jump does not involve a sand pit. Instead, athletes attempt to clear a horizontal bar and land safely on a mat. After each round, the bar is raised higher until only one athlete remains.
Senior Justin Swayze cleared 5-8 in the Blue Devil Classic on Saturday April 11, while sophomore Aiden Danner jumped 5-6 at NJAC East.
For the girls, Gumann cleared 4-8 at the Morris County–Richard Fahey Frosh-Soph Championships. Sophomore Courtney Krauss followed with a jump of 4-3 at the Morris County Relay Championships on Wednesday, April 29.
“High jump, though being a tough event, has trained me to recognize the finest techniques as well as execute precise movements in competition,” Danner said. “I am happy I started, and I can’t wait to see where I go from here.”
Pole Vault
The final jumping event is pole vault, one of track and field’s most unique competitions. Athletes use a flexible pole to propel themselves over a high bar.
Although Randolph does not have a large pole vault roster, several athletes have made strong contributions this season. Freshman Joseph Lange cleared 9-0 at Morris County–Richard Fahey Frosh-Soph Championships.
“In pole vault, you have to force control of your body to be successful,” senior Matt Estrada said.
For the girls, sophomore Sophia VanAntwerp vaulted a 7-6 at the Morris County-Richard Fahey Frosh-Soph Championships.
While each jumping event requires different skills and techniques, together they contribute valuable points for Randolph Track as the Rams close out their successful 2026 spring season.
