Randolph battled through a tough matchup against Caldwell on Thursday, May 14, but a late push was not enough to stop a 7-3 loss.
The Rams struck first in the opening inning after Daniella Gizienski reached base and Isabella Schmidt drove in an early run to give Randolph the lead. Caitlin Sedorak continued to spark the offense throughout the game, collecting two hits and scoring a run as the Rams stayed within reach early on.
“We all knew coming off a couple of hard losses we wanted to change our mindset,” senior outfielder Lily Zepp said. “We’ve been super hard on ourselves mentally and soon realized we didn’t want to go down this road of losing over and over. We also knew we were playing a very good Caldwell team and had to keep up with them.”
Randolph finished with eight hits as multiple players contributed at the plate. Schmidt had a strong performance, recording two hits, two RBIs and a home run, while Hayley Arigo added an RBI hit of her own. Lily Zepp chipped in with a double, and Elizabeth Latch also added a hit as Randolph continued to pressure offensively into the later innings.
“Our pitching staff has been throwing really well lately, doing a great job working counts and getting out of tough situations,” pitcher Breanna Colburn said. “Even with injuries, players have stepped up and done whatever they can to help the team.”
In the circle, Colburn started for Randolph and struck out seven batters over four innings of work. Elena Perez came in during relief and helped settle things down, allowing just one run over the final two innings. Randolph showed fight late with two runs in the seventh inning, but Caldwell was able to hold on despite the Rams’ late momentum.
The Rams continued to show depth throughout the lineup. Even in the loss, Randolph stayed aggressive at the plate and continued battling until the final out.
“We can bounce back from this tough loss by keeping energy high and continuing to work hard and support each other on and off the field,” senior Caitlin Sedorak said.
The Rams will look to rebound when they host Johnson on Saturday, May 16.
