The RHS Baseball team swept its series against Morris Knolls last week, winning 13-6 on April 20 and 7-1 on April 22, and beating Boonton 27-3 on April 24. This three-game surge improves the Rams’ record to 6-8.
“We have a strong rivalry with Morris Knolls, so the team entered the week with a lot of intensity,” head coach Mark Rizzi said.
Randolph 13, Morris Knolls 6 (April 20)
Randolph started the week off hot, with a commanding 13-6 victory at home. Senior co-captain and Dartmouth commit Chase Lorent played a huge role in the offense, going 4-for-4 with three doubles and four RBIs. The Rams totaled 15 hits, four of which were for extra bases.
Senior Jack Kielbania earned the win, throwing four innings while giving up eight hits and three earned runs.
“The victory was massive for the team,” Kielbania said. “Not just for our record and the standings, but also for our morale. We have had some close games and haven’t come across many wins but to get that statement win against our rival was huge.”
Randolph 7, Morris Knolls 1 (April 22)
The Rams used this momentum to secure just their second road win of the season with a 7-1 victory.
After a slow start offensively, the Rams put up five runs in the fourth inning, three of which came off a home run from senior co-captain and Penn State commit Mason Wilson.
Sophomore Ethan Shire delivered a standout performance on the mound. The pitcher threw all seven innings and struck out four, while only giving up one earned run.
“Whether it’s on the field or coming from the bench, everyone is ready and bringing energy—we’re finding ways to win and keep each other going,” Wilson said.
Randolph 27, Boonton 3 (April 24)
Randolph had its best game of the season with a 27-3 win against Boonton, in a five-inning, mercy-rule victory.
The offense was on fire all night with a combined 22 hits, 11 of which were for extra bases and included homeruns from Wilson and sophomore Andrew Swanick.
Swanick also excelled as the starting pitcher, throwing three innings while allowing no earned runs and giving up only one hit. Senior Eli Kahn finished the job in the last two innings, giving up only one hit with no earned runs.
“The spark with Knolls really just brought our team together,” Brendan Stokoe said. “It pushed our offense to have a dominant performance against Boonton. We look forward to keeping this momentum going into this new week.”
The Rams will look to continue their hot streak this week with games at North Hunterdon on Monday, April 27, Don Bosco on Wednesday, April 29, and the first round of the Morris County Tournament versus Jefferson on Friday, May 1.
