Following another competitive season last year, the Randolph softball team enters the approaching season with high expectations and a strong core of returning players. With a talented roster and a dedicated coaching staff, the Rams are focused on building upon last year’s success.
“Our team’s goals for the season are to first get back on the banner as well as continue to use our very strong team dynamic to grow as a team and continue to win lots of games,” senior captain Cassidy Smith said. “Also, we like to emphasize “mudita,” cheering for our teammates’ successes, which helps us work together as a team and have a very positive environment.”
Throughout the offseason, the Rams have been working hard to get ready for the upcoming schedule. Players participated in winter training sessions along with after-school workouts to keep in shape and continue improving their skills ahead of the season.
One of the team’s biggest strengths this season is its skilled group of upperclassmen. Several seniors including Breanna Colburn, Caitlin Sedorak, Smith, Daniella Gizienski, Hayley Arigo, Kayleigh McClain, Kira Kristoff and Lily Zepp, along with juniors Elena Perez and Elisabeth Latch, return to the field bringing guidance and familiarity to the lineup. Their experience will assist them in guiding the younger players as they adjust to the varsity level.
In addition to the returning upperclassmen, the team also welcomes several underclassmen who are expected to make valuable contributions this season including Devyn Meyers, Camryn McClain, Emily Czapka and Mia Briganti. The coaching staff hopes to help these players develop while also maintaining the strong culture that the program has built over the years.
The Rams face a challenging regular-season schedule, competing against various strong opponents throughout the conference and county. With returning players who already have strong chemistry and experience playing together, the team hopes that teamwork and communication will help them succeed on the field.
As the opening-day nears, the Rams remains focused on continuing to improve and working together toward their goals.
“I want to help lead the team by example,” senior captain Arigo said. “My goal is to be a role model for my teammates, both on and off the field. I am aiming to help everyone get stronger both physically and mentally throughout the season.”
Randolph opens its season against Pope John XXIII today, Monday, March 30, beginning its push for another successful year.
