The Rams 2025-2026 Boys and Girls Fencing season was certainly not boring. What was intended as a rebuilding year for the team soon became a season filled with consistency, growth and surprises for all.
This season the boys ended strong at 7–4 and qualified for states but lost in the first round at Ramapo, going 19–8.
And while the girls did not qualify for states, they finished 4–6 and walked away with lessons and momentum they are ready to carry into next season.
“There’s a sense of camaraderie in our fencing teams that you can’t really find anywhere else,” sophomore Alohi Rao said. “With many fencers graduating this year, I’m looking forward to seeing more of my teammates get on the strip next season as the future of our program.”
As the season unfolded, both teams found their rhythm in several ways. The boys kept a steady upward climb, building confidence with each win and learning even more from their first loss, which pushed them to focus instead of just going through the motions.
Leadership played a significant role too, with boys sabre captain Ritvik Thota offering on strip guidance and armorer Nick Garcia bringing nonstop energy. On the girls side, senior captains Cassidy Chaudhari and Ranya Preetanchal kept their squads focused and confident, helping newer fencers settle into tough bouts. Across both teams, the seniors’ work ethic set the tone and shaped the confidence the underclassmen carried into every meet.
The girls had a tougher start, but the win at Morristown sparked something in them and carried them through the middle of the season. It reminded them all of what they were truly capable of. For all the fencers on both teams, the greatest change was in the area of confidence. Fencers who had been stuck in their own heads learned to trust themselves and fight for every touch.
“I’m really proud of our team’s growth throughout this season,” Chaudhari said. “I’ve enjoyed watching these fencers flourish and win numerous accolades for all their hard work. Best of luck to the underclassman as they step into a more prominent role next year.”
The girls’ breakthrough at Morristown became one of the defining moments of their season. After two early losses, they edged out a 14–13 win that shifted everything: energy, confidence and the way they carried themselves on the strip. That meet did not just put a win on the board; it proved they could close out tight bouts and compete with anyone in the conference.
The boys came out strong with three consecutive wins and were never in any danger of losing steam. They came back strong even through some tough meets at Chatham and Millburn by dominating Hackettstown, Kinnelon and Morris Catholic in decisive fashion. Senior night at home was one of the tougher meets of the year, and also the last for senior fencers, as the team honored them for leading the program well beyond the strips they competed on.
By the time the season closed, the Rams had made it clear they were not here to be overlooked.
