The Rams Boys Indoor Track team closed out a successful winter season with strong performances across the sprint, distance and field events, highlighted by top county finishes and multiple athletes advancing to championship-level meets.
“Going through those highs and lows and striving to improve every day is the most important part of succeeding in a sport like Track and Field,” Head Coach Luke Suttile said.
This year’s excellent team benefited from a great coaching staff, with long-term coaches Suttile and Anthony Zarro returning for sprints. Distance coach Nick Albanito returned as well, along with throwing coach Eric Naclerio. This year a new coach was added to the staff, RHS English teacher Daniel Burkert, who assisted with sprints and hurdles.
Not only did these coaches help the Rams grow this season, but senior captains Asher Adeghe, Christian Velasco and Justin Swayze led this team using their four years of experience in the sport to help their teammates in practice and at meets.
“I try to show everyone, especially new runners, that I am open to questions and anything I can help with because when I was a freshman I know I was intimidated by upperclassmen and was scared to ask questions,” Velasco said.
While the season has ended for most of the team, several elite athletes are still competing at Easterns and have earned the distinction of qualifying for the National Championships and the Meet of Champions.
The Rams Indoor Track team competed in the Garden State Invitational on Friday, Feb. 13, 2026, at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, completing their successful team season.
Sprints
During the season, the sprinters practiced almost every day, running 200- and 400-meter repeats and hills, as well as weight-training on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday mornings.
This season at county championships, sophomore Ian Yorks placed sixth at the Morris County Championships in the 55-meter dash, with a 6.73-second time, being the only sprinter to place in the top eight for the boys.
The sprints group competed in a variety of events, from relays like the 4×200 and 4×400 to individual races such as the 55-, 300- and 55-meter hurdle. These events were key to the success of the team and provided the sprinters with plenty of opportunities to run. This year the sprints were led by their large senior class who provided wisdom and advice to the lower classmen.
“The senior leaders have always been a major part of how our team grows as a unit and learns what it takes to be at the highest level of the sport,” Suttile said. “As seniors, they have been doing Track and Field for a number of years; they’ve had the ups and downs of training, competition, injury and recovery.
Distance
The distance runners in the 2025-26 season were arguably the strongest portion of the indoor team, with top seniors Kennan Byers, Jacob Conti and Ryan Davidson all placing in the top 12 in the 3,200-meter run in the group highlighted by Byers’ win and Conti’s fourth place finish.
Juniors Russell Goldstein and Max Ramsdell have also been consistent contenders in their respective events, with Ramsdell placing 10th in the mile and Goldstein placing 12th in the 800-meter run at groups.
Not only upperclassmen have been thriving this year in the distance group, but multiple underclassmen have also stepped up to the highest level, including freshmen Andy Bernardino, Josh Corsaro and Michael Ramsdell, who all competed at sectional and county championships.
“Our dedication and strong runners, with the combination of a good coach like Albanito, allowed us to reach our full potential this season,” Bernadino said.
Throws
Over the course of the season, throws have emerged as a strong point in the season with seniors Swayze and Ben Quinn and senior Zahir Hoppe being the top shotput throwers on the team. At state sectionals, Swayze and Quinn placed third and fourth respectively, with Hoppe not far behind in 12th.
Overall, this season has been successful with people trying new things, achieving personal records, and placing in important events, forming a staple in the Randolph indoor track legacy.
