Fencing Teams Open Season with Boys’ Win, Girls’ Narrow Loss

The RHS Boys and Girls Fencing teams opened their season at home against Mendham High School on Monday, Dec. 15, 2025, turning in strong all-around performances despite mixed results. The boys earned a 15-12 victory, while the girls fell just short, in a tightly contested 14-13 loss.

Seniors Andrew Walker and Nick Garcia led the boys’ effort, going undefeated for the night, finishing 3-0 and 1-0, respectively.

Head Coach Adam Dorfman credited these wins to weeks of preparation leading up to the meet. “Boys sabre was lucky enough to return two members of the 2025 county championship squad,” Dorfman said. “The team will be leaning on Ritvik Thota and Andrew Walker to have a strong season.”

On the girls’ side, sabre was the only squad to return all of last season’s starters. “They had a great performance against Mendham, going 8-1 against the Minutemen,” Dorfman added.

Senior Sophie Visser and junior Andrea Gil had perfect 3-0 records in sabre. Despite their excellent performance, the team fell just one bout short of victory.

“Although the girls’ team lost on Monday, I was still proud of our first meet.” Visser said. “We’ve been working hard at our daily practices, and we were supportive of each other throughout the entire meet. The score wasn’t an indicator of our true success.”

The boys continued to build momentum early in the season, while the girls looked to rebound in their next meet. Both teams demonstrated discipline and will-power as the season progresses.

Both teams return to action on Thursday, Jan. 8, when they face Morristown
