The RHS Drama Club staged an engaging fall production of “Clue on Stage: High School Edition” in the high school auditorium from Thursday, Nov. 20, through Saturday, Nov. 22.
In four shows over three days and nights, the comedic murder mystery captivated audiences with hilarious lines and an enjoyable story. Written by Sandy Rustin, the play is based on the 1985 film “Clue,” which was inspired by the iconic Hasbro board game. The entire show takes place inside of a mansion in the 1950s where six main characters fight to protect their darkest secrets. By the end of the show, after six bloody murders are committed, all six characters are arrested.
The show featured superb acting from the entire cast. Kudos go out to all the leads, who played their roles as murder suspects with secret pasts to perfection.
- Libby Cooper played the stiffly formal Wadsworth.
- Emma Carothers portrayed the saucy maid, Yvette.
- Jeffrey Allen took on the role of the pompous Colonel Mustard.
- Cara DeConto was the suspicious, oft-married Mrs. White.
- Ashly Alphonse embodied the neurotic Mrs. Peacock.
- Gavin O’Donnell played the timid Mr. Green.
- Liam Rose was the egotistical Professor Plum.
- Samantha Walker took on the role of the seductive Miss Scarlet.
“You could tell the cast had worked together long enough to build real chemistry on stage,” junior audience member Shannon McGlashan said.
Visually, the production was equally impressive, featuring professional-quality sets, moody lighting and period-appropriate costumes. “The set complemented the costumes really well,” McGlashan noted.
The stage and tech crews worked just as hard to ensure everything went smoothly in this technically complex production, which utilized six different stage flats on wheels for all the different rooms in Boddy Manor. The stage crew showed mastery of their craft with seamless scene transitions throughout the play.
“Stage transitions-wise it was all just a bunch of figuring out how to work best with the crew to have everything run smoothly,” said Sarah Hall, senior crew member and props master. “The biggest challenges were just keeping everything intact and functioning both on and off stage.
The crews’ preparation paid off on stage. “There was a rapid switch over of props and moving set pieces,” Hall said. “It took a lot of effort and coordination to get everything to work smoothly from both the cast and crew.”
Cast members reflected on the successful production after the final curtain call. “I feel it was one of the best shows we have performed,” said junior Cara DeConto, who played Mrs. White. “It was a fun group of people in the cast and a fun show to perform overall.”
Senior Liam Rose, who played Professor Plum, agreed. “It was a smaller cast, so I felt really close with everyone individually,” he said. “There were many comedic moments in the production that made it special.”
“I am sad that this is my last fall play,” Rose said. “But I am looking forward to the spring,” he added, in reference to the upcoming spring musical, “Mamma Mia.”
