The Randolph Boys Ice Hockey team looks to add to its trophy case as the new campaign begins today, Friday, Dec. 5, at 4:40 p.m. with an away matchup against Kinnelon.
This season carries extra weight after last year’s heart-breaking overtime loss against Chatham in the Mennen Cup semifinals and tough loss to Ridgewood in the Public A semifinals.
“This season is personal,” senior Logan O’Malley said. “We didn’t bring home the Mennen Cup and the state championship, and that still drives us every day.”
Entering the 2025-2026 campaign, the Rams are poised for key matchups against Morristown-Beard, Bergen Catholic, Chatham, Rumson-Fair Haven and Northern Highlands.
The Rams new leadership is anchored by senior captains Vinny Crisafulli and Shane Melly. The two are the top returning scorers, and the team will put much of the offensive load on their shoulders.
“I’m honored to be captain,” Melly said. “The guys before me built a high standard, and my goal is to live up to it and lead this group how the great captains in the past have led me.”
Crisafulli added that what sets this year’s squad apart is “everyone buying into their roles and coming out with higher intensity each game.”
Despite last year’s setbacks, the team has grown tremendously in a year’s time. The boys have been lifting together since early fall, with many staying game-ready through club hockey. And with new players carrying larger roles and veteran players stepping up to fill holes, the Rams believe they’re ready to make a statement.
