RHS held its annual club fair on Wednesday, Sept. 18, in the high school’s Main Gym.
The student leaders of over 40 clubs actively signed up new members at their tables, many of which were decorated with hand-made posters publicizing the clubs and persuading students to join. The clubs were diverse, with something to offer most students. ppealing to their unique interests and encouraging them to come out of their shell and try something new.
“Clubs benefit our students by allowing them to showcase their talents and interests while also learning from one another and trying new things,” Dean of Students Lindsay Reilly said.
The following are brief descriptions of some of the most popular student-run clubs who had tables at the club fair.
Key Club
Key Club gives its members opportunities to volunteer in the community. Many members have volunteered at various events such as Eagle Enrichment at Center Grove Elementary School, Habitat for Humanity, and the Kaleidoscope Program at the YMCA, where high school students can swim with autistic children. Along with accruing honor society hours, students hold leadership roles throughout the club. “It’s helping better the community, members who volunteer are trying to make the town a better place,” senior Elizabeth Bukh said.
Rampage
Rampage is the high school’s news site, created by students who write and edit articles for six different sections: News, Sports, Campus Life, Arts, Opinion and Multimedia. Anybody in RHS is invited to write and get published in Rampage. “Rampage is a great way to get involved in the community,” said Brett Shuster, editor-in-chief of Rampage. “It provides reporters with the opportunity to write articles and become published. It helps improve students’ writing skills and gives reporters real-world newswriting experience.”
Mock Trial
Mock Trial is a fitting club for anyone interested in going into the judicial field. Mock Trial has meetings to discuss the workings of the law and student develop the skills to build a powerful argument. “We compete in a real court house setting and we go through Patel, an ongoing member cases to portray how it would be in actual live cases,” said Diya Patel, the student club representative.
Black Student Union (BSU)
BSU’s mission is to encourage a positive and productive representation of the black student community at RHS. “It teaches people the importance of black history while bringing the community together,” said Chelsy Tejada, a returning club member. By embracing black culture, heritage and unity, and an appreciation for diversity, club members encourage proactive leadership, scholarship, community outreach and student empowerment.
National English Honor Society (NEHS)
NEHS is a club for juniors and seniors who have shown academic accomplishments in the field of English. “It promotes the field of English for the school and helps students’ understanding of it,” senior Shaelyn Brady said. Members must complete at least eight hours of community service related to literacy for each year of membership, and act as academic and professional role models for the school.
The 2024 Club Fair helped new as well as returning students get introduced and familiar with the clubs of RHS. “The clubs here at RHS are great because there are so many to offer and one for everyone to feel welcome,” sophomore Kate Lyons said.
