From left: Aydan Salim, Mikayla Watkins, Josh Bisono

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, Rampage roamed the high school hallways to find out what RHS students think about the Feb. 14 tradition: Is it a much-loved holiday or much ado about nothing? Here’s what we found out.

Valentine’s Day: Love it or hate it?

“I don’t really have an opinion on it. I just consider it a normal day of the year.”—Katie Tighe, senior

“I like it. I mean, there’s really no reason; I just like flowers and stuff.”—Madison Molina, senior

“Neither. I don’t love it or hate it. I don’t participate.”—Ryan Ortega, senior

“I like it. It’s lovely. Love is in the air.”—Mark Samuel, senior

“I mean, it’s aight. It’s helps bring people closer together, but it’s a little overdone.”—Kevin Tish, senior

What are your plans for Valentine’s Day?

“I’ll go watch the new Bob Marley movie, ‘One Love.’ Will I go with a Valentine? Cosi cosi [50/50 chance].”—Mark Samuel, senior

“I’ll be hanging out with family.”—Jacob Trilling, junior

“I’m probably going to be with my friends.”—Allyson Galloza, sophomore

Do people need to ask their significant other to be their Valentine, or is it implied?

“You definitely have to ask.”—Mikayla Watkins, junior

“It’s cute if you do.”—Josh Bisono, senior

“Yes, of course.”—Aydan Salim, senior

Do you think people make too big of a deal out of Valentine’s Day?

“I don’t think it’s a big deal.”—Matias Tovar, freshman

“Yes, I feel like people are just so worried about finding a valentine that they miss the whole concept of the day. You don’t have to be in a relationship on Valentine’s Day.”—Yolanda Sabillion

“It depends on the person. If a person’s really loving, they go all out. If it’s parents who’ve been married a long time; it’s just a normal day.”—Madison Molina, senior

Should Valentine’s Day be considered a holiday?

“I think it should because it’s a good thing when people have a boyfriend or girlfriend.”—Alex Korab

What’s your favorite Valentine’s Day treat?

“Hershey’s dark chocolate.”—Anthony Vasquez Mendoza, freshman

Is Valentine’s Day your favorite holiday?

“No, Christmas is because I get to give gifts to all my family.”—John Krynicki, senior

Do you know the story of who Saint Valentine was and why Valentine’s Day is named after him?

“No, not Saint Valentine, but I know about the Santa Claus one.” –Steve Coleman, art teacher

What a “lovely” article! So much fun to read about young people’s opinions. I could agree with some of the opinions and disagree with others. But regardless, like this article, Valentine’s Day is a lovely celebration!!❤️
