The Randolph Rams Varsity Girls Lacrosse team is looking once again to make history this year.  After two revolutionary conference championship-winning seasons, the team is set for yet another successful spring of athletic prowess, expertise and victory.

Head coach Jillian Picciuto is eager to lead the team to success. As a previous varsity assistant and college athlete at Moravian University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Picciuto knows what it takes to win and serves as a highly inspirational role model for the team.

“It is very exciting to be taking on a new role this year as a head coach,” Picciuto said. “I could not have asked for a better group of girls to be coaching. They are extremely hard-working and driven. They want to better themselves every day and as a coach, that is all I can ask of my players.”

Also at the helm is Hannah Bhend, the new assistant coach. Bhend played lacrosse at Farleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey, and is excited to help the Rams conquer on the field.

The team roster this year is as strong as ever, now under the captainship of seniors Danielle Blumenthal and Alexis Fleischer and junior Riley Novak. The three talented athletes are already dedicating multiple hours after school to perfect their skills. There are also plenty of spots open for underclassmen to fill.

“After last season, we have moved up a conference,” Fleischer said. “So as for this season, we hope this means that we can bring home another conference title. Our team has strengths on both ends of the field; we have returning varsity players in every position.”

The Rams also have a well-rounded defense this season, with returning senior Danielle Blumenthal, juniors Katie Tighe, Samantha Einfieldt, Grace Collinson and Maria LaPietra; and sophomore Poema Koliqi.

Juniors Novak and Alexis Rodell are returning midfield starters who have been consistent varsity players since their freshman years. Returning attack players include senior Alexis Fleischer, juniors Taylor Santoro, Cassie Saltz, Summer Walsh and sophomore Giuliana Pozzi.

“We have been back-to-back conference champions and last year made it the farthest in program history in counties and states” continued Picciuto. “This year we are expecting to do that and more. The players have been working extremely hard in the off-season and we are continuing to grow and work to achieve more than what we did the year prior”

This year’s game schedule will be slightly different, as Coach Picciuto has secured the team some great games against statewide powerhouse teams such as Chatham, Caldwell, Verona, Morris Knolls, Montclair Kimberly and Glen Rock to name a few.

The first official game of the season against Wayne Hills will be hosted at Bauer Field at 4:15 p.m. on Monday, April 3. Come loud, proud and ready to support our lacrosse Rams in their season opener.
