The Randolph Girls Ice Hockey team beat Princeton on Friday, Jan. 6 at Mennen Arena. The two well-matched teams went head-to-head, but the Rams prevailed, 9-0.

“The girls came ready to compete on Friday. I was very happy to see a full team effort,” Coach Ryan Hallock said. “Three of our players were able to get their first varsity goals: Amelia Kolbik, Olivia Olechowski and Lindsey Millward.”

Randolph’s aggression for the puck allowed them to get on the board early and emphasize their bonded team play on the ice. The Rams ended the first period with a 4-0 lead. Senior co-captains Steph Martin and Anna Stock finished the period with two goals each.

Coming into the second period, Martin put in another quick goal. Senior Millward and freshman Kolbik both scored off an assist from Stock, making the score 7-0 in the middle of the second period.

In the final period, junior Joelle Yurchuk put another into the back of the net, followed by a goal from sophomore Olechowski with an assist from sophomore Yolanda Sabillion. Princeton attempted to bite back, but it was too late for them, as the Rams pulled away with another decisive victory, scoring 9-0.

Junior goalie Stephanie Xhumba ended the game with 12 saves on 12 shots, contributing immensely to secure the win for the Rams.

“On Friday everyone played together as one. We were moving the puck well and our passing game has never looked better,” Stock said. “Almost every goal was assisted, and our offensive line has really become strong. Ultimately our team is working together more, and the more connected we get, the more successful we will be.”

“Everyone’s getting more confident, individually which in turn makes the team dynamic much better” said Martin, “systems are smoother, and passes are connected.”

After their monumental Jan. 6 win, the Rams tied Chatham, 5-5, on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at SportsCare arena, extending the team’s record to 3-4-1.

The team is scheduled to play Kent Place next, at an away game on Friday, Jan. 13.
