Randolph Varsity Girls Indoor Track won first overall in the Morris County Relay Championships held at Drew University on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

“It has been three years since the Randolph girls track and field team has brought home a county championship, and we have our coach, Kevin Higgins, to thank for it,” runner Jadyn Lorent said. “The comradery and trust that has been established between us is unparalleled, and even on an off day, we still support and cheer for one another.”

The meet began with seniors Ariyana Jackson, Julia Nitulescu, Kenidi Lewis and sophomore Gabby Ball taking second place for Randolph in the 4×200 relay with a time of 1 minute and 56.82 seconds. Seniors Lewis and Samantha Willis, junior Olivia Myerson and freshman Carlie Wysocki then placed third in the 4×400 with a time of 4:21.89.

Randolph also took first in the 4×800, with junior April Kusnier and freshmen Wysocki, Lilah Willis and Chelsea Renna clocking in at 10:19.79.

“Since the first day of practice, we were talking as a team about how much we wanted the title,” senior team captain Jackson said. “We have strong runners who set goals for themselves and put a lot of effort into this team. Even though it’s still the middle of the season, and based on all of our efforts during practice and meets, we can be even stronger than before.”

In the medley relays, S. Willis, Jackson, Ball and Wysocki achieved second place in the 200-200-400-800 with a time of 4:29.58. S. Willis, Myerson, Kusnier and Renna took fourth place in the 1200-400-800-1600 in 13:31.24.

“This season we have some amazing new runners including Carlie Wysoki, Lilah Willis, Gabby Ball, and Chelsea Renna, as well as seniors like Ariyana Jackson and Samantha Willis who continue to dominate in their respective events,” Lorent said.

In shot put, seniors Jackson and Khy’aria Thorpe took first (37 feet, 6.25 inches) and second place (34’7.5”)  respectively, both achieving personal records. Lewis took third place for Randolph in the high jump, reaching a personal record after jumping 4’8”.

Following the Morris County Championships win, the girls team earned four top-ten finishes at the NJSIAA State Relay Championships, held at the Bennett Indoor Athletic Complex in Tom’s River on Sunday, Jan. 15. These included placing first in the 4x800m relay and fifth in the distance medley relay. In shot put, Jackson placed second, throwing 35’8.5” and Thorpe placed eighth, throwing 33’2.25”.

The indoor girls team has been incredibly successful this year, earning high scores in all of the meets they’ve competed in since the season started in December.
