Randolph Boys Soccer beat Parsippany Hills 2-1 in the second round of the Morris Country Tournament (MCT) on Wednesday, Oct. 9..
“We knew we were the better team, and coming out big in the first few minutes of the first half gave us an advantage,” Garcia commented after the game.
The game started with the Rams possessing the ball and dominating. Within the first five minutes, senior co-captain Bryan Garcia crossed the ball into the box, which was tapped in by sophomore Andrei Nitulescu.
Parsippany Hills woke up and both teams started battling for control, the Rams were able to hold strong defensively while also looking for more opportunities to score.
In the second half, the boys kept up their momentum and hoped to get another one in the back of the net. Senior Justin Quinonez did just that, as he tapped in a rebound from the Hills goalie.
Despite holding a 2-0 lead, the Rams refused to ease up and kept the intensity going for the rest of the game. They held high pressure and controlled possession, ensuring Parsippany had little opportunity to score.
With five minutes remaining, Parsippany managed to break through and score a goal, but it was not enough to put them in the lead.
“The game was much tighter than it should have been,” junior Jake Rubin commented after the game. “But we played well to win the game and advance to the next round of counties, which is all we can really ask for.”
“The boys played well,” Garcia added. “They all played collectively and showed their passion for the game.”
The Rams finished the game strong and are gearing up for the MTC quarterfinals against Chatham on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
