Student Council members joined forces with student volunteers from National Honor Society and Dance Outreach to complete a call-a-thon fundraiser, where they raised more than $6,000 for the Henry’s Loving Team charity during Spirit Week, starting on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
Henry’s Loving Team is a nonprofit that is committed to helping children with a cancer diagnosis. The charity hits close to home as it honors former Randolph student Henry Aulenbach, who passed away from childhood cancer in 2019 at age 8. Henry’s Loving Team also offers scholarships to students who emphasize qualities such as compassion, kindness, generosity and friendship.
Prior to the call-a-thon, students completed a call sheet with the numbers of their friends and family. Leading Edge, a national sports and team fundraising company with a local presence throughout the United States, also gave the student fundraisers an in-depth explanation of how a call-a-thon works.
For the next hour, students contacted the people on their lists about donating, gave them the donation link, and followed up with phone calls. Leading Edge further motivated students by making the fundraiser a friendly competition between grade levels and providing prizes and gift cards as incentives.
While making calls, many of the student fundraisers emphasized the central idea of the charity. “When I got a call and was explained the mission of the charity, it was inspiring,” said senior Kayla Brand, who donated $100 to the mission.
“Someone in my family has had cancer, so many of my family members personally relate to the organization, which inspired them to donate even more,” said senior Navya Agrawal, a Student Council member.
“I felt really good doing this for my community,” said sophomore Lizzie LaDieu, a Dance Outreach member. “I felt like I was a part of something larger than myself, and I was able to have fun in the process.”
By the end of the evening, the seniors were the top sellers of the night with $1,315 donated, with the sophomores coming in a close second. The top fundraiser of the night was senior Sebastian Henao, with $450 in donations. Agrawal came in second with $365 donated.
