Members of the RHS community and Randolph township gathered to celebrate Halloween early at Adorable Doors, an annual event designed to be inclusive for trick-or-treaters of all ages, including those in need of mobility aids, which makes it difficult for them to celebrate traditionally. The event was held at the high school on Saturday morning, Oct. 26.
Earlier in the week, participants from RHS clubs, sports teams and honor societies decorated classroom doors, with each group choosing a unique theme including aliens, scary books, “Inside Out,” and red, white and blue for the USA. On the day of the event, these student and staff volunteers handed out candy to costumed children who were eager to fill their Halloween bags.
“It was really awesome and amazing to see all the kids and be able to provide a fun experience for them,” said student volunteer Madi Gaydos, a member of the French Honor Society (FHS). “They all had the best costumes.”
“I just loved seeing all the little kids in the cutest outfits,” added sophomore Caylie Aguado, who also participated in the event.
The event began in the Commons and continued along the second-floor hallways at the high school. Participating clubs and teams included Girls Ice Hockey, Girls Lacrosse, FHS, Literature Club, Team Harmony, Spanish Honor Society, Dance Outreach, Black Student Union, Computer Science Honor Society, Investment Club and more.
Humanities Supervisor Brienne Valvano, who organized this year’s event, first participated in Adorable Doors in 2019, working alongside Meghan Dunn (Class of 2019), who was a student in the high school’s Option II program at the time. “I continue to help organize the event because I love seeing our students share their creativity with the greater Randolph community,” Valvano said. “This event is one of the many reasons I take pride in being a Ram.”
Adorable Doors seemed to be as fun for the kids trick-or-treating as it was for the faculty and students who volunteered and helped set the right tone for the Halloween spirit.
