The RHS Boys Golf team finished the long season strong with a winning record of 11-10.
The season began with a promising 3-2 start, with RHS securing victories against Morristown Beard, Morris Knolls and Mount Olive, while suffering losses to Pope John and Delbarton.
In subsequent matches, the team faced tougher challenges, losing four out of their next six games. Randolph managed wins against Hackettstown and Sparta but was defeated by Montville, Roxbury, Morristown and Pope John, leaving the team with a 5-7 record after 12 games.
However, the team rebounded strongly, winning four of their next six matches, including victories over Morris Hills, Morris Knolls and Morristown. Despite their efforts, the Rams did not secure wins in either the Morris County Tournament or the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1, Group 3 championship in early May.
The team’s final three games of the season consisted of a loss at Bernards, followed by wins at Mount Olive and at home against Montville. The season was considered a success, with the team finishing above .500, qualifying the Rams for the state tournament and securing second place in their division.
“Brayden [Meditz], Achal [Agnihotri], and I performed very well this season,” senior varsity captain Andrew Parton said. “I’m extremely proud of us for placing third in the group county tournament as well as beating our rivals, Roxbury.”
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Coach Ryan Zavala commented, “The team performed very well this year. We took second in our division and made the state tournament for the first time in years.”
Coach Zavala also praised sophomores Meditz and Agnihotri, who took third and fourth place in the state sectional tournament.
Looking ahead, Coach Zavala noted, “We have three graduating seniors who have made a significant impact over their four years. But we have some young talent in the pipeline that can fill in the gaps.”
