Girls Lacrosse Brings Season Record to 5-2, Including Big Win over Sparta, 17-4
April 19, 2023
Randolph Girls Lacrosse saw mixed results this past week, beating Ramapo, 15-8, on Saturday, April 15, but suffering a loss to Madison, 9-12, on Tuesday, April 18. The Rams currently have a season record of 5-2.
In a noteworthy game played the prior week, the Rams beat Sparta at home on fan and teacher appreciation night on Thursday, April 13.
Senior captain Danielle Blumenthal said she went into the Sparta game “expecting a win, but I knew it had to be well earned. Sparta is great competition, so tensions were high, but we came out on top because we wanted it and earned it.”
Leading in points for the team was junior Taylor Santoro, totaling five goals, with classmate Riley Novak coming in at a close second with four goals.
The whole team contributed to this win with seven different scorers including juniors Alexis Rodell, Summer Walsh and Cassie Saltz, sophomore Guiliana Pozzi, and freshman Natalia Donato.
Only four goals out of 17 shots made it past junior goalie Judy Mahoney, who finished the game with 12 saves. Walsh and Rodell both had one forced turnover, while junior defender Maria LaPietra picked up one ground ball from a faulty Sparta pass.
“I think our team exceeded expectations in every way,” Blumenthal said of the Sparta win. “Yesterday’s game created a new standard for us physically and mentally, with our feet never coming off the gas pedal. I’ve never seen us maintain energy and grind throughout the whole 50 minutes of a game yet this season, so it was awesome to see everyone in good spirits and play their hardest, and I’m extremely proud of everyone.”
The girls play next on Friday, April 21, at Madison.
