RHS junior Grace Kellett won a contest to design a new logo for the orchestra program. Her artwork will appear on concert pamphlets and a new line of spirit wear for the Randolph Orchestra program.
“When I found out I won, I was super surprised because I don’t have a lot of experience designing logos, and I expected there to be many other submissions much better than mine” Kellett said. “I’m excited to see my logo appear on our concert pamphlets and upcoming merch this year.”
The Randolph String Parents Association (RSPA) sponsored the contest to encourage student involvement and creativity in the orchestra program. “It’s important to me that students have an active hand in shaping their community and that students can see their contributions reflected in our decisions,” Music Teacher Aoma Caldwell said.
Kellett said that coming up with the right design required both research and vision. “When I designed the logo, I looked at a lot of orchestra logos from other schools and tried to come up with something that kind of encompassed what I liked about each of them,” she said. “I wanted our new logo to look more modern, and I spent a lot of time tweaking the small details like picking the right fonts and sizes.”
Both Kellett and the orchestra staff hope the new logo will help boost interest in Orchestra-themed merchandise, and in turn, raise funds to support future opportunities for students in the program.
