The Randolph Football team secured its first win of the season in dominant fashion, taking down Orange 41-6 on Friday, Oct. 17.
“It was a great feeling,” senior captain Ben Quinn said of the victory. “We gave the intensity and played with everything we got.”
From start to finish, the Rams were in full control, starting off their offensive series with gritty runs by seniors Jackson Magley and Logan Hankin. To cap off this drive, sophomore Dillon Hines punched it in from 12 yards out, striking first and giving Randolph an 8-0 lead.
Orange had no breathing room to start off its attack, with tackles for losses by seniors Jayden Morreale and Andrew Zeidman. On third down, the Rams turned the tide and Morreale found his first interception of the year, getting right back to business on offense.
Randolph marched right down the field in under five minutes and 12 plays, capitalizing with a receiving touchdown by junior Matthew Skrapits to extend the lead to 14-0. Randolph was back in business quickly, with a fumble recovery by senior Max Eisenberg.
“We were firing on all cylinders,” Eisenberg said. “The vibes were the highest they have been all season, and the true factor for this win was confidence.”
On the first play of the drive, Magley found the hole and ran in to secure his fourth rushing touchdown of the season, with Randolph in front 21-0.
In the blink of an eye, Skrapits stuffed the Orange punt, running all the way to the house and bringing the Rams’ dominant performance to 28-0. The Rams were not letting anything by on defense, as senior Joel Omar Nieves came down with an interception and the third turnover of the first half. This showed Randolph was not slowing down, with the team’s highlight-reel moment coming from Magley, turning on the jets for an 87-yard touchdown, making the score 35-0.
On the fourth play of Randolph’s drive in the third quarter, senior Steven Nostrame ran it in to put the final nail in the coffin at 41-0.
The theme of the fourth quarter was development, as the Rams looked to put in their underclassmen who will be the future of the team.
“It’s good to give the underclassmen a valuable experience,” Magley said. “The future is bright, and I want to contribute to a successful organization.”
Sophomore Levi Seiden was able to notch some yards and get the Rams into the redzone. Randolph decided to chew out the clock, and secure a well-deserved, long awaited first win of the season, 41-6. This was also the first win under Head Coach Ryan Gresik, a phenomenal milestone for the first-year coach.
“Now it time to finish the season on an exclamation point,” Magley said with an eye toward the next matchup against Mendham. “This will be the last game for us seniors, so I know we are all hungry.”
Randolph will host Mendham in its season finale, on Friday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m.
