Following years of dominant performances, the Randolph Boys Cross-Country team is once again proving itself to be a powerhouse and strong contender for the prestigious Meet of Champions (MOC), the ultimate state-level competition in New Jersey high school cross-country. This year’s MOC will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025, at Holmdel Park in Holmdel, NJ.
Also, prior to the MOC, Randolph will compete once again at the Group 3 North 1 State Sectionals at Garret Mountain on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025. This repeat visit comes after the team claimed back-to-back titles there over the last two seasons.
“This team has come a long way, and we are better than we expected to be,” said Head Coach Luke Suttile, who leads the program alongside Coach Nick Albonito. “I am looking forward to the state series, and I know it will be a battle for the team to achieve the threepeat.”
Here’s a look at some highlights from the boys’ season so far.
Battle @ Ocean County Park—Sept. 12, 2025
Randolph wasted no time proving itself a top team this season. At the Battle @ Ocean County Park, a unique invitational that groups runners by grade level, the team put on an impressive display marked by personal bests and dominant performances.
From the fastest runners down, the Randolph boys ran outstandingly there, securing multiple personal records across various distances. Numerous team members secured medals by placing in the top caliber of their respective races.
Standout Kennan Byers led the charge by winning the senior 5k race, running a personal-best 15.23 and destroying the competition by a whopping 21 seconds. Fellow senior runners Jacob Conti (16:25), Ryan Davidson (17:21), Aron Varghese (19:03) and Dan Perez (19:15) helped Randolph to a strong second-place team finish out of 13 schools.
Several freshmen also displayed their talent and future potential by placing third out of 15 teams in their two-mile race, leading many to believe that the future of the team looks as promising as its present.
“Top to bottom we are improving a lot,” Conti said. “Junior varsity is getting faster and faster, and varsity is improving with times coming closer and closer together.”
Shore Coaches Invitational—Holmdel Park, Oct. 4, 2025.
At one of the most critical meets, the boys varsity team displayed an impressive performance at the Shore Coaches Invitational, held at Holmdel Park, on Oct. 4, 2025.
Holmdel Park hosts some of the most important meets in New Jersey, such as the state group championships and the MOC meet. The course is well known for its aggressive hills and slower times, which serve as a critical test ahead of the postseason.
At the meet, the varsity team valiantly proved once again that it was a top team in the state by placing three runners within the top 30 finishers and placing fourth overall out of 26 teams.
The Randolph lineup included seniors Byers (16:37), Conti (17:29) and Davidson (18:37); along with junior Russell Goldstein (17:43) and sophomore Griffen Branch (18:53).
“I think the team is better than I thought it would be,” Coach Albonito said. “I was unsure how the team would do this year, although I am pleasantly surprised.”
Looking Ahead: The State Series
Over the next few weeks, coaches Suttile and Albonito will continue training the runners with an eye toward strong showings in the state series at the Group 3 North 1 Sectional meet at Garret Mountain on Nov. 1, and, if all goes well, a return to Holmel Park for the MOC on Nov. 15.
