RHS Junior Jonathan Ford has been selected for the 2025 New Jersey All-State Band, earning a coveted position as a battery percussionist in the Wind Ensemble. Ford was one of only 12 percussionists chosen from across the state, placing fifth overall, and is the first RHS student to achieve this honor since 2019.
Ford has been a member of the RHS Wind Ensemble since his freshman year and is widely regarded as one of the top musicians at RHS. He currently serves as the percussion section leader, a first-chair position that includes leadership responsibilities such as writing assignments and mentoring fellow musicians.
As a sophomore, Ford qualified for the New Jersey Regional Band, earning him the opportunity to audition for the All-State Wind Ensemble. The ensemble features the top high school musicians in New Jersey and performs annually in Atlantic City and Newark.
“Jonathan Ford is one of the exceptional musicians we have in the Randolph Band Program,” said Nicholas Fantazzi, RHS band director. “It’s rare to have a student accepted into the All-State Band as a sophomore, as you need a high level of skill and musicality to get to that level. Jonathan works very hard to achieve his goals and did a fine job representing Randolph at the All-State level.”
In addition to his musical achievements, Ford plays for the RHS football team. During halftime performances at varsity games, he participates in his football uniform, a symbol of his dedication to both music and athletics.
Music has always played a significant role in Ford’s family life, and he began playing drums when he was only in fourth grade. “I was inspired by my dad and Mr. Miller to start my drum career,” he said.
Ford’s twin older siblings, Greg and Katelyn, are also members of the RHS band. His father plays saxophone, and his mother plays the clarinet. “My whole family is involved with music and has been my whole life,” Ford said.
