The Randolph Rams suffered a hard-fought defeat on Friday, Oct. 3, losing 34-7 to Warren Hills, to drop to 0-6 on the season.
“Staying together as one and playing with trust in each other is the best thing to do in times like this,” junior Nate Rogers said.
Warren Hills came out strong and scored three straight touchdowns to take a commanding 19-point lead with 10 minutes left in the second quarter.
The Rams defense came up huge halfway through the second quarter as sophomore Erich Hochstuhl snagged an interception as the Rams looked to mount a comeback.
Randolph, needing a score to stay in this game, mustered up a nice drive, highlighted by a 20-yard reception by sophomore Dillon Hines. The drive was capped off with a one-yard rushing touchdown by Hines to get the Rams within 13 points.
The Rams ended the half strong as senior captain Jackson Magley got the Rams their second interception in two quarters, as the Rams trailed 19-7 heading into the second half.
In the next half, the Rams offensive players picked up right where they started as junior quarterback Matthew Skrapits had a 30-yard rush to get the Rams into the Red Zone. With all things looking good, the drive abruptly ended with a fumbled snap, forcing the Rams to punt.
On the defensive side, senior captain Benjamin Quinn came up the middle and forced a fumble to give the Rams another chance to make it a one-score game. The Rams were able to connect on some passes highlighted by a nice 20-yard catch from junior Erinson Febles, but in what became a theme of this game, they fell short in the Red Zone.
“I felt that we had the opportunities to score, being in the Red Zone twice,” Quinn said. “We shot ourselves in the foot multiple times.”
The fourth quarter was all Warren Hills, as they shut the door on any potential comeback, scoring two touchdowns to cap off a dominating 34-7 win over Randolph.
“The game showed us some things thus must be fixed,” junior Jonathan Ford explained. “We’re already focused on beating Roxbury.”
The Rams will continue to look for their first win of the season as they’ll be on the road against Roxbury on Friday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m.
