Randolph High School students and staff are enjoying several newly completed campus renovations, including updated turf fields, a redesigned gym, a new outdoor patio, a new roof and a virtual trophy display case.
The upgrades began in late spring of the 2024–25 academic year, continued over the summer, and were finalized early in the current school year.
Among the improvements:
-
DaSilva Field and Bauer Field both received new turf.
-
The Main Gym was outfitted with new flooring and bleachers.
-
A new patio was constructed next to the Commons.
-
The track was resurfaced and changed from red to navy blue to match school colors.
-
A virtual trophy case was installed near the gym.
Delays on DaSilva
Not all renovations went smoothly. After the initial installation of turf on DaSilva Field, quality checks revealed issues that required the turf to be removed and replaced.
“After installing the new turf, quality checks revealed issues with the DaSilva Field installation,” said Dean of Students Lindsay Reilly. “The first installation had to be removed and redone.”
This delay pushed back the field’s completion and forced the Rams soccer teams to postpone their first home games.
A New Outdoor Space
The newly added patio off the Commons was recently completed and is set to be furnished with tables during warm-weather months.
“I think the new patio gives the seniors a great space to use during lunch,” senior Cassidy Smith said.
Gym Floor and Bleachers Upgraded
The Main Gym now features brand-new flooring with a polished finish and improved grip for athletes. The previously malfunctioning bleachers, which often caused interruptions during gym classes, were replaced with a fully functioning system.
Bauer Field: A Turf First
Bauer Field underwent major upgrades as well. RHS became the first high school in New Jersey to install turf without rubber pellets. The new surface is designed to better simulate real grass and stay cooler during early fall and spring weather.
In addition, the track was resurfaced and changed from traditional red to navy blue, aligning with RHS’s official school colors.
Trophies Go Digital
In a significant change, the school’s traditional trophy cases are being replaced with a virtual display. A new touchscreen TV has been installed between the Main Gym and the attendance office, where photographs of past and present trophies will be showcased digitally.
“The trophy cases are overfilled, and many sports teams enter through the gym, so this will be the first thing they see,” said Athletic Director David Hutchinson. “All the old trophies will be stored in the building, but they will not be displayed in the lobby.”
The digital case will feature a timeline of athletic achievements and is currently being updated with photos of the school’s awards.
Roof Repairs Completed
Finally, the school roof underwent repairs to address leaks and has since received a certificate of occupancy, marking its official completion.
