The RHS varsity Girls Soccer team opened its 2025 season with a strong 3-1 win over Morristown on Thursday, Sept. 5.
After a summer of training on turf, the Rams were unexpectedly faced with a tall grass surface at Morristown, but the change in conditions did little to shake their focus or momentum.
“Overall, the game was a great start to our season,” senior co-captain Carlie Wysocki said. “At moments we did not play our best, especially getting scored on in the beginning of the second half to bring the game to a tie. But we were able to bring more energy and come back to get a 3-1 win. Hopefully this game sets a to for our season, and we can continue to do well.”
Wysocki gave Randolph an early lead midway through the first half, sending a shot from the top of the box past the Morristown goalkeeper to make it 1-0. The goal helped settle Randolph into a rhythm as the team controlled much of the possession going into the halftime break.
But Morristown came out strong in the second half, quickly earning a free kick about 25 yards from the goal, tying the match at 1-1 and briefly shifting the momentum in favor of the home team.
With about 15 minutes remaining, sophomore Dana Cozza provided an assist to junior Carly Renna, who calmly slammed the ball into the far post to put the Rams up 2-1.
“We didn’t come out the way we wanted, and the start was rough, but we stuck together, kept grinding, and turned it around,” Soto said. “Couldn’t be prouder of how we finished and got the win.”
Randolph added a third goal late in the match to secure the win. Junior co-captain Amiyah Soto took a free kick just outside the 18-yard box and buried it in the top corner, ending the match with a 3-1 win.
The Rams (1-0) will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 9, with an away match at Sparta High School.
