Despite graduating 10 seniors from last year’s roster, Randolph Girls Varsity Soccer is poised for another standout season. Last year, the Rams ended the season with an impressive 17-4 record and advanced to the state semifinals before falling to Morris Knolls.
“After graduating 10 seniors, we’re expecting teams to come into games underestimating us,” assistant coach Matt Horner said. “However, the returning varsity players are focused and eager to prove how much of an impact they’ve already had on the program, and several new faces to the team are ready to step up and continue our legacy of success. We’re going to surprise a lot of people this year.”
This year’s squad brings back nine varsity players, including senior captain Carlie Wysocki and junior captain Amiyah Soto. Also returning are seniors Reina Daniel and Jamie Donnelly; juniors Lulu Wenger and Carly Renna; and sophomores Dana Cozza and Macie Wysocki. A new addition, Pia DiGregorio, rounded out the team’s key players during the preseason.
Randolph kicked off preseason scrimmages with a 2-1 win against North Hunterdon on Aug. 25. The Rams followed up with another 2-0 victory against Mendham on Aug. 28, with goals from Cozza and junior Colby Van Wingerden. Next, Randolph defeated Somerville 4-1 on Aug. 31.
Randolph wrapped up preseason play with a challenging match against Ridgewood, a contender for the Bergen County title. Senior captain C. Wysocki scored the game’s lone goal, firing a shot from the top of the box into the upper 90.
With momentum on their side, the Rams are looking to add another title to the program’s banner this fall. NJ.com recently ranked the current team No. 15 in the state, writing, “Randolph has the talent to compete for the Morris County Championship this fall and make a deep run in the state tournament if everything clicks.”
Randolph kicks off its regular season at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4 at Morristown High School.
