Despite having a team at RHS for only the past five years, Boys Volleyball has already built a remarkable legacy. Launched in 2021, the program has been under the steady leadership of head coach Erik Novack for all five seasons, each marked by impressive records and continued growth.
“The legacy of the Randolph Boys Volleyball program is all about service to others, leadership and a team-first culture,” Novack said. “We’re not just a winning team; we represent what it means to stand for something bigger than yourself.”
The inaugural 2021 season ended with a 9-8 record. Although the Rams were eliminated in the second round of the state tournament, the team laid the foundation for future success.
In 2022, Randolph improved to a 13-8 record. The team won the NJAC Tournament with a 2-0 victory over Jefferson High School but fell in the first round of the state tournament.
The 2023 season saw the Rams take another leap forward, finishing 24-5. Along the way, they defeated top programs including Chatham, Sparta and Jefferson. Randolph again won the NJAC Tournament, this time over Vernon, and advanced to the state semifinals.
In 2024, the team finished with a 15-12 record. Despite an early exit in the state tournament, the Rams displayed their talent with big wins over schools such as Chatham and Hunterdon Central.
Now in the 2025 season, the team is off to its best start yet. As of May 7, Randolph is undefeated at 20-0 and ranked ninth in the state, according to NJ.com. With the postseason on the horizon, the Rams are poised to make their deepest run yet.
“In just a short time, we’ve gone 20-0, proving that legacy isn’t measured in years, but in the impact you make,” junior Cole Cantada said. “We’re not just building a program; we’re setting a standard.”
“We attribute the success of the team thus far to our chemistry on the court and our ability to stay flexible, whether it’s playing different positions or filling in for injured people,” junior libero Aedan Perez said. “The end goal is to win the NJAC tournament and make a deep run into the state playoffs and potentially secure the Group 2 title.”
In just five years, the Boys Volleyball program has become a defining force in RHS athletics, leaving a legacy of excellence, leadership and resilience.
