Randolph Softball went on an impressive four-game winning streak from Wednesday, April 16 to Thursday, April 24, bringing the season record to 7-2.
“All it takes is one good play in the field or one good hit to shift the momentum and start a rally,” said junior Cassidy Smith when describing the team’s strategy.
The Rams started the two-week streak with two wins on Wednesday, April 16, and Thursday, April 17, showing their dominance against Madison 10-0 and Sparta 8-5.
Against Madison, junior pitcher Kayleigh McClain earned herself an impressive no-hitter. This secured the win and proved Randolph is a dominant defensive team, holding back the rivals to enjoy a safe win.
In Sparta, Smith made four hits and earned three runs for Randolph. Junior Haley Arigo also made an impact, with two hits and one run for the team.
“We tell them to flush the errors and help figure out strategies to help them get through,” head coach Ashley Kanya said. “They utilize each other more than anything to help them get through.”
The team then geared up for another busy week, beating West Morris 11-1 on April 22 and winning 11-2 against Morris Hills on April 24.
“Even though long weeks are tough thinking about our team goals, that helps us stay motivated to go out every day and give it our best,” Smith said.
The Rams found a helpful groove against West Morris with senior co-captain Autumn Liebhauser earning herself a home run. Arigo and junior Daniella Gizienski also helped with three hits each, and junior pitcher Breanna Colburn only allowed four hits to West Morris.
“When we have a good inning, we use that energy to carry us forward,” senior co-captain Rebecca Dasti said.
The team continued to dominate against Morris Hills 11-2 on April 24, proving that Randolph is one of the top teams in the league.
Liebhauser earned two home runs and Smith got one for the team. They proved to be strong hitters for Randolph as Dasti and freshman Elsabeth Latch made it to home plate, scoring more crucial runs for the team.
“The team relies on each other and picks each other up when in need,” Kanya said. “They really are a true team.”
The Rams face their next opponents in the Mount Olive Tournament on Saturday, April 26.
