Boys Lacrosse has had a difficult season so far, capped by the team’s most recent 10-9 loss in overtime against Scotch Plains-Fanwood, on Tuesday, April 15, bringing their season record to 0-6.
At the SP-F game, the Rams were on the verge of getting their first win of the season when the Raiders made a comeback, leaving the Rams with another loss.
“I thought that we played good, but we need to fix some of the small mistakes we made throughout the game,” junior co-caption Nick Cirella said.
The first half of the game began with the Rams making tons of goals, putting Randolph ahead 5-3 at halftime. Junior Mark Manolis scored twice, with senior Elliot McClendon and sophomores Everett Palumbo and Ryan Barnett all scoring once, in a strong team effort to secure the win for the Rams.
“When the game started, I thought that the Rams would have their first win of the season, but by the fourth quarter, I started to see that they were having a hard time,” freshman fan Tabatha Alarcon said.
The second half saw Randolph working hard to claim the win, with two goals from Randolph senior Vincent Tallman, and one each from McClendon and Manolis.
However, the Raiders made a comeback, ultimately leaving the score tied at 9-9 and sending the game into overtime. The Rams strove diligently, but Scotch Plains-Fanwood got the winning point, ending the game in overtime at 10-9.
“I thought that the boys came out strong and were really playing strong,” player parent and team fan Amy Cirella said. “It was a very well-played game and a tough loss.”
Boys Lacrosse takes on Pope John next, on Friday, April 25.
