Here at RHS, high school fashion isn’t only for girls; today’s clothes-conscious guys also dress to impress, wearing apparel that features popular logos, sweats, celebrity-inspired looks and neutral colors. While the logos may differ from person to person, today’s trends in guy fashion always feature comfort, style and individuality and show that our male students can easily piece together outfits that make them look cool and on trend.
Brands
Brands like Nike, Hollister, Essentials and On Cloud have been fan favorites this year. The brands’ signature logos, including the Nike swoosh, Hollister eagle and Essentials name, can be spotted at almost every turn in the hallways.
Nike is making an even bigger impact than in prior years, with the brand reaching beyond clothing to backpacks, which appear to be a big hit at all grade levels.
For sneakers, the newest versions of classic lines from the 1980s like Jordans, Dunks and Air Forces—with more recent additions like Air Max 270s—remain cherished choices for many students.
Hollister is still a shopping hotspot for many of our guys, with its appealing line of casual, sleek clothing. Some of the brand’s enthusiasts said the brand’s beachy, California-inspired style gives their outfits a unique vibe. Also on the list of Hollister must-haves are basics like the decidedly unbeachy flannel shirt
The Essentials brand is another huge hit with our male teens. The brand’s hoodies, available in various colors, feature a clean, simplistic design that wearers say is easy to throw on in the morning before school.
“In my opinion, I believe comfortable clothing is better to wear than stylish,” freshman Christopher Calle said. “I feel more at home, and it’s easier to put on because I don’t have to spend like an hour trying to pick a stylish outfit.”
Sweats
Wearing sweatpants and sweatshirts to school is a skyrocketing trend at the high school this year, with guys reporting that these clothes can’t be beaten for their warmth and comfort.
Stores like Adidas, Nike and Abercrombie are famous for their clothing staples, especially their sweatshirts and sweatpants, which are great options for students who want to step up their style while staying super comfortable.
“I like shopping at stores like Abercrombie, Adidas and Nike,” freshman Marko Barisic said. “I enjoy their brands and clothes overall because they are very comfortable.”
One of the most popular brands for sweat style is Nike, with its Sportswear Club and Tech lines being among the most popular choices for RHS guys. These styles offer a relaxed but put-together look in a soft-to-the-touch, smooth fabric.
Celebrity-Inspired Looks
Although celebrities don’t dominate guy fashion at RHS, some popular stars do inspire certain looks and color combinations in high school wear, while giving male students another unique way to express themselves.
“I would not necessarily say that celebrities affect what I wear,” senior Samuel Folger stated. “But I do really like what [fashion stylist] Taylor McNeill has been doing recently, and I love [fashion designer] Riccardo Tisci, with his high-fashion streetwear ideas.”
Colors and Patterns
The colors that RHS guys more frequently wear trend toward neutral hues. School garb in gray, black, navy and white are staples in most wardrobes.
Patterns like camo and plaid are also popular, showing that these selections can turn any outfit into a fashion statement.
“I usually wear neutrals as they match with everything,” senior Alex LoCascio said. “Black and white are my go-tos.”
Now that spring is here and the summer season approaches, students will no doubt be on the lookout for new styles and fresh combos to continue making fashion trends happen in the high school hallways.
