RHS students usually have a lot to say about their classes, with some core subjects or electives clearly standing out as their favorites. These classes often rank the highest on students’ lists due to engaging teachers, manageable classwork or entertaining subject matter.
“My favorite class is dance because it’s a time to express your creativity and move while learning,” sophomore Cara DeConto said.
“My favorite class is Mr. Hoesly’s and Mr. D’s [Dinozzi’s] history class,” freshman Alyssa Leto shared. “They make it super entertaining, the class is never boring and they’re just overall really funny teachers.”
School can be stressful and difficult at times, but there is usually that one class where students feel upbeat and safe. Some high school students feel that way about math and science, while others prefer English and history.
“My favorite class this year is probably AP Lang,” junior Ashley Silvestri said. “Because even though it’s a lot of classwork, it’s very rewarding, and it’s very easy to keep up with.”
“My favorite class is World History Honors with Mr. Torsiello because his way of teaching makes it incredibly fun,” freshman Isabella Schmidt said. “The classroom is also extremely comfortable, which helps me pay attention and enjoy the class much more.”
Electives are also a popular choice when it comes to picking a favorite class as students can choose what interests them. Junior Kaitlyn Brown said, “My favorite class is Introduction to Studio Art because I get a break from my challenging core classes, and I get the chance to explore my creativity.”
Not surprisingly, many seniors said they love Study Hall, as it gives them time to relax and do schoolwork. Senior Maeve Barry shared that this is her favorite class as she can, “get all my work done, so I don’t have to do it at home.”
Most students told Rampage that electives are their favorite classes. English, History and Science tied at second, with Language and P.E. coming in third.
When asked why a particular class is their favorite, 55% of students responded that it’s because the teacher is “fun and easy to talk to,” while 9% of students said the teacher is “helpful and wants students to succeed.” Another 18% of students said it’s because “the subject matter is interesting,” and another 18% of students answered that they have “friends in their class.”
Despite their diverse range of interests, RHS students proved that, whether it be a core subject or elective, there is an enjoyable class here at the high school for everyone.
