Following the Randolph Softball team’s impressive 2024 season, with a 20-9 record and state sectional championship, the Rams are feeling optimistic about the upcoming 2025 season.
“Our goal is to overcome the hump from last season and become the first county champions in school history,” junior Cassidy Smith said.
With the season-opener game coming up in less than two weeks, the girls have been working hard during the long winter offseason. “We’ve had our winter training once a week, along with speed and conditioning twice a week,” Smith said.
Thanks, in part, to the team’s many key returning players, the Rams can expect success going forward. The team captions include seniors Autumn Liebhauser, Rebecca Dasti and Hannah Bermudez and juniors Breanna Colburn and Smith. This strong upperclassmen base should allow the team to thrive this coming season.
“We were lucky enough to graduate only two starters from our program, so our returning core is very strong,” Head Coach Ashley Kanya said. Kanya added that one of her main goals this season is to, “welcome our freshman into this program and teach them what Randolph softball is about.”
The Rams face a busy schedule consisting of 21 regular-season games. With many key players returning to the field, such as Haley Arigo, Kayleigh McClain, Daniella Gizienski, Caitlin Sedorak and Lily Zepp, the teammates’ familiarity with each other’s style of play should also help them thrive.
The team’s chemistry and sense of community figure into the players’ optimism for the coming season as well. “I will help lead the team by being a positive role model and leading by example,” said Dasti, a returning senior captain.
“This team is one of the strongest groups we have seen, and if we continue to work together and play our best, they will once again meet the goals that they want,” Kanya said.
The Rams play the season opener @ West Morris Central on Monday, March 31.
