From early morning practices to hard fought battles on the ice, the 2024-2025 Girls Ice Hockey season was defined by determination and teamwork, ending with a 4-11-1 record.
The final record may tell one story, but it doesn’t define the team’s overall effort. From the first puck drop to the final buzzer, these players showed commitment and battled through all challenges that came their way. This season was about more than just results; it was also about development, teamwork and the positive attitude among players that carried the team.
The girls played a mix of teams including Chatham, Madison, Kent Place, Cranford, Newark East Side and Princeton. The Rams won their season opener against Chatham 2-1, edged out Princeton 7-6, and beat Newark East Side twice at 10-2 and 3-0.
While getting up for early-morning practice every Tuesday might not have been easy|, it was all worth it when the Rams got to play against Madison on the main ice at Prudential Center. Being able to play in an NHL arena followed by a free skate with friends and family on the main ice was an unforgettable memory.
“It’s an honor to have the opportunity to skate where so many legends have,” sophomore Lia Carroll said.
The season saw talented freshman step up, with Charna Torres having a total of 19 goals and 27 points, freshman Dana Cozza earning a total of 9 points and freshman Jillian Gizienski stepping up as well. Goalie Maria Dlugolecki had 492 saves and a .893% save average.
“We had great contributions from our freshman and solid leadership from our seniors,” head coach Scott Aiello said.
As the season came to an end, the Rams said a fond farewell to six incredible seniors who have been the backbone of the team: Yolanda Sabillon, Jaclyn Mars, Caroline Coe, Cam Browning, Olivia Olechowski and Jessa Altemose. All six seniors have left a lasting impact by shaping the culture of the program and setting an example for the younger players.
“This season was bittersweet because, while my senior season was obviously special, there is nothing I love more than playing my favorite sport with my favorite people,” Browning said.
As the season came to an end, the Rams earned a spot in the first round of states, facing off against Kent Place. Though they were knocked out, the girls were a formidable challenge for Kent Place, proving their grit.
“I feel that we progressed super well as the season went on, and I can’t wait for next season,” junior Daniella Gizienski said.
