Valentine’s Day has always been a time for expressing love and relationships, but in 2025, many RHS students are celebrating the holiday in their own unique ways. While chocolate and bouquets are still popular, some unique trends are buzzing through the halls.
Galantine’s Day Party
Although Valentine’s Day is typically celebrated with significant others, Galantine’s Day parties are becoming a fan favorite where students host gatherings filled with heart-shaped snacks and treats, Valentine’s-themed drinks, fun games and heart-shaped pizzas. “We baked cookies and painted jewelry dishes,” junior Amelia Kolbik said. “It was a lot of fun.” These activities highlight the meaning of female friendship and self-love, making the day special for everyone, regardless of relationship status.
Movie Marathon
Nothing says Valentine’s Day more than a romcom movie marathon. Whether it be watching classics like “10 Things I Hate About You” or enjoying new ones like “Anyone but You,” RHS students love spending the night indulging in feel-good movies and snacks with their close friends. Some even decorate their rooms with pink, white and red balloons, lights and streamers to get the ultimate movie-night experience. “I love spending the night with my friends watching some of our favorite movies and eating our favorite snacks,” senior Isabella Jones said. “It’s a great way to celebrate the holiday with friends.”
DIY Spa Day
For those looking to relax and rejuvenate, a DIY spa day is the perfect Valentine’s celebration. Homemade face masks, manicures and sweet-scented candles all add to the calming atmosphere; it’s a light-hearted way to unwind while embracing self-care and quality time with friends. “Having a spa day with my friends is super fun because it gives us an activity to do that’s relaxing,” senior Lilly Levine said. “We even have boxes of chocolate to eat while we are waiting for our face masks to dry.”
Family Celebration
Many students celebrate Valentine’s Day at home with their families. Moms and dads often show appreciation for their kids with small Valentine’s Day gifts like chocolate, flowers and teddy bears. “My parents get me chocolate every year for Valentine’s Day,” senior Angela Remick said. “Even though it’s just chocolate, it still makes me feel happy and loved.”
School Celebration
Many schools have their own Valentine’s Day celebrations to show appreciation to their teachers, students and faculty members. Since elementary school, students have made Valentine’s Day cards and brought candy to share with their classmates. “I remember when I was in second grade, we had a Valentine’s Day party where we went around the room giving everyone little Valentine’s Day cards and ate candy,” senior Carolyn Marconi said. Even in RHS, many clubs have events where students can write Valentine’s Day cards to faculty and staff members to show appreciation for their hard work.
Classic Valentine’s Day Activities
Of course, some students enjoy going the traditional route, celebrating the holiday with their significant others. Going out to dinner, making Valentine’s Day treats and enjoying classic winter activities are always a great way to celebrate the day.
Whether it be spending time with family, friends, significant others or classmates, or simply showing some self-care, Valentine’s Day is the perfect reason to tell people (including yourself) that you love and appreciate them.
