Bridges, Video Club and Rampage are three of the most popular clubs at RHS. All of them have seamlessly welcomed new and returning members and offered them an enticing array of activities and events. Rampage took a look at these clubs and here’s what we found.
Bridges
The Bridges club is dedicated to providing outreach and aid to those in need in the greater Randolph community.
One way the club helps out is through food drives, including one held last fall, from Oct. 28 to Nov. 11, to benefit Homeless Solutions.
“I really like the turnout we just had for a recent collection drive for Homeless Solutions,” said Evan Wilson, the club advisor. “A lot of students either donated non-perishable goods or basic household items like napkins and utensils. I’m very happy that all of our club members are getting hands-on experience.”
Club members also wrote and sent 115 Thanksgiving cards to senior citizens at the local Brightview and Sunrise assisted-living facilities.
To improve communication with members, potential members and the public at large about upcoming club events, Bridges recently increased its social media presence with a new Instagram account. “One of the biggest areas of progress in our club this year has been improving communication with members by using Instagram more frequently,” said Jack Manolis, the club president.
Video Club
Video Club films and publishes video packages of RHS-sanctioned events like plays, musicals and concerts for members of the RHS community to view. Club members also produce and provide the talent for the Ram Report, the morning show that airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during homeroom.
“I enjoy seeing how our members, who either came from middle school or had little to no experience, are already catching on to the responsibilities and showing a willingness to being prepared and succeeding with ease,” said Dane Fordahl, the club president.
“I think we have a really great group of people in this club, especially the sophomores and freshman who are showing dedication and determination,” club member Carly Ellermeyer said. “I have seen immense progress in the club since the beginning of the year. Members have become increasingly comfortable, confident and skilled in their positions, from script writing to on-screen talent to running the control boards.”
Ellermeyer shared some of the recent improvements members have made to the Ram Report. “We have implemented several new aspects of the program, like a ticker, which is the scrolling news banner at the bottom of the screen,” she said.
Rampage
This club is for student journalists who want to write for and get published in Rampage, the student-run digital news site. The club has seen notable success in the past two years since it went on line, publishing a whopping 426 articles, videos, photo essays and podcasts in the following six sections: Campus Life, Sports, News, Opinion, Arts and Multimedia.
The Rampage student journalists work hard to produce high-quality articles quickly that help keep the RHS community informed and entertained. “I most look forward to giving new writers a chance to be published,” said Brett Shuster, the editor-in-chief. “We plan to expand the types of articles we publish to make room in our publication for new, innovative stories.”
Shuster noted that the valuable staff members are an integral part of the club’s success and that Rampage is lucky to have them. “All the reporters and editors for Rampage are extremely dedicated and brilliant and always produce a great final product,” she said.
An influx of talented new reporters this year has contributed to the “large number of articles published in Marking Period 1, compared to years prior, which truly showcases our hard work,” Shuster added.
