RHS fencing teams hosted Morris Knolls on Jan. 9 in a hard-fought meet that saw mixed results. The boys team secured a decisive 18-9 victory, while the girls came up short, losing 15-12 in a tightly contested matchup.
Senior Zach Weiss, a foil fencer for the boys, went undefeated for the night, finishing 2-0. Weiss credited the team’s preparation and camaraderie for the success. “We came into this meet ready to give it everything, and it showed in our bouts,” Weiss said. “Everyone contributed to this win.”
On the girls side, senior Alyssa Cullen had a perfect 3-0 record in foil. Despite her stellar performance, the team fell just three bouts short of victory. “Even with the loss, we stayed together, and I felt proud to be a part of a team that values connection and teamwork as much as competition,” Cullen said. “Moments like this are a reminder that fencing is more than competition and more of an emphasis on resilience and life lessons.”
The boys improved upon their record with the win, while the girls will look to rebound in their next meet. Both teams continue to showcase their determination as the season progresses. Below are key results from the match.
