Despite a disappointing start to the season, which saw losses at both the Caldwell Tournament on Saturday, Dec 14 and to Livingston 48-30 on Saturday, Dec. 21, Rams Wrestling remains optimistic about the remainder of the season.
“We have a lot of new wrestlers on the team,” sophomore Aiden Madayag-Williams said. “We have really built up the team the past few weeks.”
Junior captain Andrew Zeidman noted that the wrestlers still have their work cut out for them. “We have a young team with a lot of talent that needs to step up in their roles,” he said.
Last season, the Rams went 11-16 overall and 3-2 in the division, with key victories against rivals Mendham and Roxbury. By the end of the 2023-2024 season, the Rams had advanced to the North 1 Group 4 finals to face Mt. Olive in the regional championship.
Unfortunately, the Rams lost some key senior wrestlers in the offseason, including Nico Gregory, Luke Fabre, Julian Rua, John Shadwell, Connor Wysocki, Pete Mendoza, Natali Perez, and Jason Petroski.
Taking their place is an influx of new wrestlers who have the potential to keep the program as strong and competitive as it has been in the past.
The team has also seen some key wrestlers return, including Nick Feldi, Yash Pullam, Zeidman, and WilliamMehalko.
“It is an absolute joy to be in the room each day with a great group of young men that have the desire to excel in the very challenging sport of wrestling,” coach Mike Suk said.
The Rams are fired up, aggressive and ready to their early losses behind them for the remainder of the season, They are prepared to become a dominant force in the division and create a fierce roadblock for other competitive teams in the county.
