RHS 180s Breezeway Transformed into Winter Wonderland in Anticipation of “Winter Week”

Students decorated the 180s breezeway at RHS for the high school’s upcoming Winter Week, from Dec. 16 to Dec. 23.

Members of the RHS Student Government, Dance Outreach and Art Honor Society joined forces during the Zero Period on Tuesday, Dec. 10 to decorate the 180s breezeway in anticipation of Winter Week, which is being held at the high school on the six school days leading up to winter break, from Monday, Dec. 16 to Monday, Dec. 23.

“This was a great chance to put the students in the holiday spirit and encourage participation in Winter Week,” senior student coordinator Navya Agrawal said.

The hallway decor includes snowflakes suspended from the ceiling and on the windows and walls. Other features include tinsel wrapped around the handrail, a plastic penguin and winter trees scattered throughout.

“When I saw it for the first time, I felt like it was really snowing outside,” senior Jackson Schmitz said. “It got me ready for the holidays.”

The star of the show was a mural with snowflakes, a snowman and holiday-themed details that the Art Honor Society students painted on the wall.

“Seeing the hallway while I walk to class puts me in a better mood to take on my day,” senior Jaclyn Mars said.

The themes for the upcoming Winter Week are as follows:

Monday, Dec. 16: Pajama Day
Tuesday, Dec. 17: Winter Sports Day
Wednesday, Dec. 18: Candy Cane Day
Thursday, Dec. 19: White-Out Day
Friday, Dec. 20: Flannel Day
Monday, Dec. 23: Grinch Day

In addition to dress-up days, there will also be a toy and winter accessory drive during the week. Toys can be dropped off in Victoria Testa’s classroom (Room 260) on Wednesday, Dec. 11, while winter accessories (hats, socks, gloves, scarves and ear warmers) can be brought to Brian Hoesly in Room 181 or Michele Adriano in Room 307 on any day between now and Friday, Dec. 20.

“Being the student lead on this project alongside Brett Shuster was extremely rewarding,” Agrawal said. “We could not have done it without [RHS teachers] Kristen Russo and Michele Adriano, as they helped us bring the vision to life.”

Students can check out the breezeway themselves to help them get into the Winter Week spirit.
