Randolph Field Hockey concluded the 2024-2025 season with a 9-11-1 record, toughing it out against some challenging opponents. Senior co-captain Kayla Pentz and junior Avery Gamsby were among the top scorers and key contributors to the team’s overall performance this season.
Sept. 5 – Sept. 30: Rams start season with 5-6 record
After opening the season with a tough loss to Chatham 7-1, followed by another defeat to West Morris 5-0, the team found a turning point in the season with a 2-1 victory over Summit.
“Finally, we won against Summit,” head coach Gina Adickes said. “I think that showed the team we can do this.”
The Rams followed with two additional wins, defeating Mendham 2-1, and Morristown 4-2, with junior Jillian Liebhauser contributing three goals across the two games. By the end of the month, Randolph’s record stood at 5-6 after an ever-changing start to the season.
Oct. 2 – Oct. 23: Rams face mid-season struggles going into Morris County Tournament
The Rams faced mid-season struggles, going 1-2 into the Morris County Tournament (MCT). However, Randolph managed to secure its first shutout of the season with a 3-0 victory over Morristown, where senior goalie Jessa Altemose recorded eight saves.
Randolph, seeded ninth, faced eighth-seeded Mendham in the first round of the MCT. Senior co-captain Lindsey Bona scored two goals, leading Randolph to a 2-1 win and a spot in the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, the Rams were eliminated after a 1-0 loss to Madison.
Oct. 25 – Nov. 7: Randolph sees ups and downs in final stretch and state tournament
As the regular season neared its end, Randolph experienced both wins and losses. The team suffered a defeat to Newton before bouncing back with a 2-1 victory over Lenape Valley. The Rams also tied Montville 2-2 in an overtime battle, with Bona contributing two assists.
“Overall, our team performed well throughout the regular season,” senior co-captain Morgan Heller said. “We had some great moments and wins, along with a few bumps in the road.”
With the state tournament on the horizon, Randolph was determined to push forward. Despite the team’s record, the Rams felt well-prepared for any opponent, thanks to the tough schedule Randolph faced during the regular season.
“Our record shows the level of play we were at and how we had some shortcomings,” Adickes said.
Ranked fifth in the state, Randolph faced Freehold Borough in the first round of the state tournament. Gamsby’s hat trick helped propel the team to a 4-0 victory, advancing the Rams to the quarterfinals.
Unfortunately, Randolph’s tournament run ended then, with a 2-1 loss to Middletown South.
