The talented members of the RHS Chamber Choir, Treble Choir and Acapella performed alongside a slew of soloists in a magical staging of the annual POPtoberfest concert on Friday, Oct. 18 in the RHS Auditorium.
“POPtoberfest was an amazing experience for me because our choirs got to display all our hard work over the last two months,” sophomore Aleena Rahman said. “I was nervous at the beginning of the show, but as it continued, I felt more at ease.”
The night started off with the RHS Acapella group singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “Happy.” These songs were promptly followed by the hits “Love on the Brain,” “My Way,” “Can You Feel My Sunshine?” and “Vampire.”
Following Rahman’s solo, sophomore Kiara Hudak dazzled audiences with her powerful performance of the iconic song, “Jolene.” Up next, RHS tenors and bass singers performed “Old Time Rock and Roll.”
“I am excited to bring back the tradition of the sopranos and altos singing a feature titled ‘Superhits’ along with the tenors and basses singing a featured song of their own,” director Matthew Swiss said.
Following the intermission, RHS Chamber Choir sang “Run to You,” followed by a quartet performing “Can’t Catch Me Now,” featuring seniors Pooja Das and Emma Basa along with juniors Elsa Bardhi and Aishvi Mehta.
“I’m most looking forward to getting to do my last POPtoberfest performance with my best friends,” Das said. “I’ve gotten the amazing chance to get even closer with them in my four years in choir.”
As the night concluded, singers performed a few more hit songs, including “Bad Romance,” “In Love with Another Man” and “Superhits.”
“It was good and entertaining,” audience member Aleksandra Jankowska said after the show, “Everyone was able to sing really well and seemed like they were passionate about their performances.”
