Randolph Girls Soccer won against Sparta 3-1 at home on Tuesday, Oct. 1, on Senior Night. This victory brings the team’s season record to 7-2 following two tough losses against Morris Knolls and Chatham. After a long battle, the Rams emerged victorious once again.
The team had just come off of a 4-0 win against Mount Olive two days prior, and the players knew they needed to maintain that same energy for senior night.
“I’m super proud of the results of today’s game and the way we all worked with each other,” said senior co-captain Rylie Van Wingerden about the match. “Everyone served a purpose and played a role in our win.”
The match began with high energy both on and off the field, as Van Wingerden scored the first goal with a header off a corner from junior Carlie Wysocki. Sparta responded with a goal of its own, which only fueled the girls’ determination to secure a win.
“We connected well and played aggressively, and with it being Senior Night, I think there was extra motivation in all the girls on the field,” head coach Kimberly Bradley said. “I think they really showed up tonight and proved themselves.”
Senior Kayla Brand started the second half with a well-executed goal, and senior co-captain Jojo DeNegri scored the final goal in the last three minutes of the game, showcasing the seniors’ incredible talent on the field.
“I was nervous going into the game, but as soon as it started, I knew we were going to win,” senior Cora Kim said. “It was sad because this is our last season but also very heartwarming.”
Randolph dominated the field, with sophomore outside back Lulu Wanger displaying excellent energy, and Kim proving to be unstoppable on defense.
Following the Senior Night win, the team went on to defeat Ridgewood 3-0 on Saturday, Oct. 5 and Morris Catholic 2-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 9 in the second round of the Morris County Tournament.
The girls will face West Morris Central next on Monday Oct. 14, at home at 6 p.m.
