The Randolph Girls Volleyball record is 6-6 halfway through their 2024-2025 season. They have come across challenges, but have been able to recover easily.
The Rams started the season with a 2-0 victory against Morris Hills on Sept. 4. Sophomore Klara Hindson was able to lead the game in assists with 9, and junior Kayla Nowlin led the game in kills with 6.
The Rams then suffered three tough losses to competitive teams, falling 2-0 to Montville, 2-0 to Mendham and 2-1 to Mount Olive. All of them were home games for the Rams. Despite the losses, sophomores Vasiliki Katsanos and Hindson achieved 6 and 8 assists.
“It is easy to allow a defeat to impact the rest of the season, so we always need to start fresh at every game,” said senior co-captain Caitin Sciubba, regarding the Rams’ three-game losing streak. “Every game is a new chance to prove that we are strong as a team and capable of improving our mistakes from previous games.”
Through the first four games of the season, Hindson stood out, leading the team with 44 and helping Randolph look to improve.
An impressive team effort allowed Randolph to win their next game 2-0 against Villa Walsh on Sept. 13. Junior Jazmine Holder led the team in kills with 5, and Nowlin was right behind her with 4.
However, the team still struggled and lost the next two home games. The Rams lost 2-0 against Parsippany Hills and 2-1 against Morris Knolls. However, the Rams continued to fight hard, helped by some crucial digs from Sciubba.
“After a loss, it’s important to focus on learning and improvement,” senior co-captain Yolanda Sabillon said. “After a game we huddle up and talk about the good and the bad.”
The Rams started to see improvement with a 2-0 win at Pope John on Sept. 25. Randolph swept the floor, leading stats in assists, kills and blocks.
The girls used their momentum to progress and win the rest of their games that week, starting with a 2-1 win at Hanover Park in the preliminary round of the Morris County Tournament.
Midway through the season, Junior Regan Galloway lead the team in both kills and blocks. Hindson also continued to shine with 33 assists.
“When we just play our game, we are able to dig ourselves out of big holes,” Sciubba said, regarding how the team stays in control during the game.
On Sept. 27, during their last game of the week, the Rams pulled out another 2-0 win @ Chatham. Again, Galloway represented Randolph with the most kills and blocks, as Hindson lead the team in assists.
Advancing in the Morris County Tournament, the Rams put on a good fight but lost to Morristown 2-0. The loss unfortunately bumped them out of the tournament.
“Our team is very talented and has grown both in their wins and their losses,” assistant coach Bryan Mate said. “Moving forward we are focusing on playing our system and being aggressive in our play.”
The team showed improvement from the recent loss and came back in the annual “Pink Out” game, where they raised money for Breast Cancer. The team was able to power through and win 2-0 against Morris Hills. Senior Belinda Carcamo led Randolph in kills, Hindson was up front with 13 assists and freshman Maria Fuentes and Galloway tied for the most blocks.
The Randolph Girls Volleyball Team has had its ups and downs, but the players are feeling optimistic about the remaining half of the season.
The Rams play their next game today @ Mount Olive at 4:00 p.m.
